Frequently Asked Questions

Does SEB have any admission requirements?

You must be a currently enrolled student at U.C. Berkeley. Initial admission does not have any other requirements.

IMPORTANT: You must attend at least one Info Session to join SEB. Info-Sessions will be held on 9/4 and 9/5, location and time TBA.

What are the requirements FOR continued membership in SEB?

You must attend work sessions every weekend at our off-campus manufacturing facility located in U.C. Berkeley’s Richmond Field Station, and you must abide by club policies such as proper use of safety equipment.

Work sessions typically last around 7 hours and go from 9am to 4pm. Work sessions are held on both Saturday and Sunday, but you only need to attend one session per week. You may miss up to 5 weeks of work per semester without penalty.

Is there a membership fee?

SEB charges a $55 activity fee per semester. This fee is used to purchase PPE (safety glasses, gloves, etc) as well as to partially fund construction, testing, and flight operations of SEB’s rockets. This fee may be reduced or waived for members with financial need.

Where do you launch rockets?

While virtually all of SEB’s activities occur locally, we go to the Mojave Desert a few times per semester to conduct testing and flight operations with the Friends of Amateur Rocketry. These trips are not mandatory, but are a chance to not only witness the results of your work, but also to have fun with other SEB members. These trips typically cost around $50 per person to cover transportation costs and admission fees for the Friends of Amateur Rocketry Facility.
